The ramp being created is shown in the "spectrum" box on the left. The white strip next to it is used for showing where intermediate endpoints exist. This ramp was created using only two points (red at the top and red-magenta at the bottom)! The ladder-like strip in the middle shows where the 13 classifications in the current legend for the "example" theme fall. This helps you coordinate color choices with particular classifications. The dialog operates simply: you choose a color, choose an action, then apply the action by clicking at the appropriate spot within the spectrum: Insert creates a new endpoint. This will split one ramp into two that meet at the chosen point. Change alters the color of an endpoint. Lock creates an endpoint and gives it the current color at the selected location. Delete removes any intermediate endpoint. The buttons provide auxiliary functions for managing your ramp. Save and Load write the ramp information to disk and read it back again. Previous goes back to the last ramp setting. Apply copies the ramp into your current legend and attaches it invisibly to your theme so you can get it back immediately. The Color Space list box lets you choose among three ramping methods: HSV (used to create rainbow-like ramps such the one shown here), RGB (ramping by interpolating in red, green, and blue bands separately), and LAB (ramping in the CIE L*a*b color space for better matching of color gradients with the eye's response).
