Memorized Calculations lets you load files of query expressions ("selections") and field calculator expressions ("formulas") at the click of a button.  We have created files of extraordinarily useful calculations.  They are available here for free download.

Remember, a single saved calculation usually replaces an entire Avenue script.  So each one of the files offered here is the equivalent of many scripts--but with a common, simple interface.

We invite you to submit your own memorized calculations.  Just send your files (*.frm) to us at MRecalc@quantdec.com.  Be sure to include comments with your formulas.

File Author Updated Contents
Shapes.frm QD 28 February 2000 Compute properties of shapes--area, length, location, both projected and unprojected; project and unproject shapes; move, rotate (AV 3.2), rescale (AV 3.2), and randomly displace shapes; clean shapes; and select null shapes.
Key.frm QD 28 February 2000 Two formulas for creating sequential, unique numeric and string keys in a table.

Using a formula file is simple

Download it to a convenient location.  You might want to create a special folder, such as ESRI/av_gis30/Arcview/Formulas, for your formula files.

When you need a formula for a table, launch Memorized Calculations by pushing its button.  Push the Load button.  Specify the file you want.  Memorized Calculations will present you with a list, as in this example from the Shapes file offered above:

Select as many as you want (hold down the shift key to create multiple selections with the mouse).  That's it!  The formulas will appear in the Memorized Calculations window, where you can run them simply by selecting them and pressing the Execute button.  Or, for a more permanent approach, press the Compile button to turn the formula into a script customized for your table.

You may need to modify some of these formulas.  To do so, just double-click on the one to modify.  This will bring up ArcView's Field Calculator dialog.  Put your cursor into the textbox and press ctrl-V to paste the existing formula.  Make your modification and press OK.  Here's an example where the projection formula's "View1" was replaced by the name of a different view:
